Disklavier Power Supply Repair
A Disklavier that clicks at startup, shows a blank display, or stays silent usually has a failed power supply. It is repairable at component level, without replacing the control unit.

Power supply capacitors degrade with age. It is the most common failure on an older Disklavier, and these are the ways it shows.

Power supplies across the generations
Yamaha has built the Disklavier since 1987, and each generation has its own electronics and failure patterns.
1987–1996
Mark II & IIXG
The floppy-disk era. Power supplies and floppy drives are the usual failures, and both are repairable.
1997–2004
Mark III
CD and floppy combo units. Control unit lockups and display failures are common at this age.
2004–2012
Mark IV
Hard-drive based with early networking. Dead power supplies and failing hard drives are the usual faults.

Disklavier power supply questions
How do I know it is the power supply?
The usual signs are a relay that clicks at startup, a display that stays blank, or a system that does nothing at all. Power supply capacitors degrade with age, and it is the most common failure on an older Disklavier. If you are not sure, send a photo of the unit and its label and we will tell you before you ship anything.
Which Disklavier models do you repair power supplies for?
Mark II, Mark IIXG, Mark III and Mark IV, in both upright and grand pianos. Older models Yamaha no longer supports are a specialty.
Can I send my power supply in from outside Georgia?
Yes. Bench work is not geographically limited, so a power supply can be shipped to us from anywhere in the country. In-home service is metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
How does mail-in repair work?
Contact us first so we know what is coming and can confirm the unit is worth doing. Ship it in. We bench-test it, identify what has failed, and send you a written quote before any work starts. Once approved we repair and return it. If we cannot repair it, you pay only return shipping.
How much does Disklavier power supply repair cost?
Mail-in repairs are quoted per unit after testing, in writing, before any work starts. For in-home service, diagnosis is $100 flat and repair labor is $125 an hour with a written estimate first. A power supply repair typically runs 1 to 3 hours plus parts at cost.
Is an old Disklavier worth repairing?
Usually, yes. The piano under the electronics is a real Yamaha acoustic, and the most common failure, the power supply, costs a fraction of replacing the system. If a repair is not worth it, we will tell you.
